First XIs Round 1 ISFA match

We met in the courtyard at 11:35, after break and set off in the minibus with Mr Dumas and Mr Lewis. The bus journey took about an hour and a half and then we found ourselves in amazing and huge grounds. Everyone was very nervous to play our first ISFA round 1 match, as we walked to the pitch.

We were playing Reigate Grammar School which is the school Mr Dumas used to go to when he was our age! We did a long warm up of about 30 minutes as we waited for our game to begin at 2:30, with two 30-minute half’s.

We started the match very solidly, captained by Thomas, and dominated from the beginning. This led to a left-foot one-on-one goal by Jack with a great finish. We then got given a penalty for a rough challenge on Jack which unfortunately we missed but it made no difference as Jack scored another goal one minute later after a clever one two. We continued to dominate as Thomas hit an incredible shot which just missed the goal but hit the crossbar. After some intense game play Toby scored a great goal to make it 3-0 to us, the first half ended after a great set of football by WUS. We had a quick team talk as the sun came out making it very hot.

The second half got underway and straight away things got tougher with a few mistakes at the back and some rough challenges. Reggie and Toby both got an injury and Aslan unfortunately pulled a hamstring. But nothing we couldn’t handle as Jack scored an amazing solo goal. The half continued with great saves by Johan and many shots by Nicky, Jack, Pietro, and Max. Unfortunately, Reigate scored a clinical goal after a scramble in the box, the match finished 4-1 to WUS, meaning we would proceed to Round 2! It was a very good match and a great performance by everyone. Special mentions to Johan and Ignacio who showed incredible commitment by being willing to miss a day of their trip Osmington bay for the match. Also, to Gabriel, Ebube and Jeremy for being so solid at the back and helping the team at the hugely. Overall, it was a great day, and our team showed a great team spirit and played very well.
